2012 Summer Staff Application Process

Thank you for your interest in working at Makemie Woods for the summer of 2012.  We have recently launched a new website and are working hard to get you the information you need.  If you have problems with any of the links, please email Sherri.  I do hope that you have read through all of the relevant information in regards to working on staff.  If not, please follow the links below...

Let us know...
Please e-mail us to let us know that you are interested in applying, and you are downloading an application. You can also ask any questions you have, or get help with this process. If for some reason your are unable to download the application, please request a paper application to be sent to you.

The Application...
The application packet includes a cover letter, employment information, the application itself, as well as the reference form.  Please read the entire application including the cover letter carefully.

You must have a pdf reader to access the application. If you have problems downloading an application, please e-mail Sherri Egerton or call 800-566-1496 to have a paper application sent to you.

  • First Year Application Packet (including reference form)
  • Returning Staff Application (Applicants who did not work at MW in the summer of 2011, must have reference forms completed.  They can be found below.)

Makemie Woods hires on a rolling basis, meaning that early applicants have an advantage.  Interviews will most likely happen on the first or second Saturday of the month.

References...
We require three written references in addition to the interview before we can offer the position.  You will need to send the reference form to the three people you list on your application.  One of the persons writing a reference for you must be a pastor or other church professional who knows you.  If the person who is currently serving as pastor of your home church does not know you (this happens alot to college students) please ask a campus pastor or youth minister who can attest to your faith to write this reference.

  • Print and send the reference form (pdf) to your references, included in your applicaiton packet, or
  • Copy and paste this link: http://dl.dropbox.com/u/51924811/2012_Reference_Form.pdf into an e-mail to these persons.

Please tell them why you are applying, and what position you are applying for.  If they do not have access to a fax machine, it is a courtesy to send a stamped envelope with the camp's address already on it.It is critical that we have accurate addresses and phone numbers for your references!

The Interview...
After we have received all pieces of your application -- including references -- we will contact you for an interview.  We begin interviewing in February and continue to hold interviews on a relatively monthly basis.  If, for some reason, you must make a decision regarding your summer plans faster than our regular interview schedule allows, please let us know and we will do our very best to accommodate your timeline.Face-to-face interviews at the camp are strongly preferred.  However, we recognize that more and more of our staff reside a significant distance from our property.  In those instances, phone or skype interviews are completely acceptable. Applicants should plan to be available for an interview by the personnel committee on the date indicated either in person or by phone, and can expect to be notified about a job within 1 week of the interview, assuming all references were received by the interview date.

Here are a few questions that you will be asked during your interview:
  1. Who, besides Jesus, do you want to be like or admire most?
  2. Are there any dates between June 8 and August 6 that you will be unavailable to work?
  3. Are you afraid of needles?
  4. Do you have a skill that you could teach to kids, i.e. sign language, dance, knot tying, etc. in a 1 hour time period?

We look forward to hearing from you.  Please contact us if you have difficulty with this process.  May God bless your decision to apply to work at Makemie Woods.
