ONE more week!
The roots
& wings
campaign has now received pledges and gifts on the brink of
passing the first $1 million
milestone!
This is
an exciting time in the campaign, so we hope it will encourage everyone
to respond
to this ministry opportunity immediately, so we can begin
construction. This campaign is designed to make our camp and
conference center, Makemie Woods, more accessible to our adults, and
more up-to-date for our youth.
We have received gifts from over 200 families with pledges arriving at
the Presbytery office daily. This is indeed a family affair, so
we are looking forward to hearing from the rest of the 8,000 families
within the next week so that scheduling decisions can be made.
If you have not made your pledge yet, please do so by June 30.
Call the Presbytery office (397-7063 X311) if you have misplaced your
packet and pledge card.
THANK YOU for your prayerful consideration of a multi-year pledge to
this ministry initiative of all 65 of our churches. Please keep
this ambitious roots
& wings campaign
in your prayers.

and Pollie

WHY I GAVE TO
THIS CAMPAIGN

Jenny McDevitt
Program Director, Makemie Woods
"I donated to the roots
& wings campaign for many reasons. The main
reason is that I have a tremendous vision for Makemie Woods and I see
so much potential here every single day. As a full-time staff
member at MW, I also felt called very specifically to give even beyond
my "comfort level." Makemie Woods is my home, both literally and
figuratively. I have an overwhelming respect for what God does
and will do here. My love for MW will always be summer camp; I
want others outside of summer camp to find and develop a similar love
for this holy place as well. I am also a member of Stone House
Presbyterian Church, which is also involved in the campaign. For
me, the question was never 'Will I give?' -- it was always 'How much of
God's overflowing abundance will I return?'"

MAKEMIE WOODS

What
does Makemie Woods mean to us?
We
asked this question to several people within our Presbytery. Here
is what Hazel Whitney from Wycliffe Presbyterian Church shared:
"My
husband and I are supporting the upgrade of Makemie Woods because we
believe that our children are our future and the future of the
church. Relational experiences occur at camp that rarely happen
elsewhere. Relationship building with God and peers is part of
the camp experience. A study done for PCUSA demonstrates that the
majority of ministers and elders in our denomination come to feel
called by God as a result of attending a church camp- conference
center. In our current electronic society, I believe places
such as Makemie Woods are vital for spiritual growth. Relating on-line
does not have the same impact. Also every year our session has a
retreat, I hope in the future these can occur at Makemie Woods.
As we get older, rustic becomes less attractive. A growing older
population justifies catering to their needs. As people downsize
they may well appreciate the spaciousness of the Makemie Woods outdoor
experience."

PRAYER
|
 |
|
Holy and Merciful God: We thank you for the many gifts that you have
given to us. We gratefully acknowledge that the gifts you provide are
not given to us; rather, they are given through us. We thank you that
you have called us to be good stewards of our time, talents, and money.
We know that you have ministries, which you are placing before us. At
times such as these, we feel much like Sarah and Abraham. We are afraid
to go out because we know that we would move out of our comfort zone.
Yet we hear your call. We feel the nudge of your Holy Spirit. So we ask
that we may be moved to use our gifts in order that the glory be to you
– not to your people. This we ask in the name of Jesus Christ: our
Lord, our God, and our Savior. AMEN.

Grant Presbyterian Church
